Alicante with the family — a 4-day plan

This is a real Fjärran itinerary: four days in Alicante for a family of four, built around short walking distances, an afternoon wind-down every day, and honest budget ranges. Every amount below is an estimate — prices move with season and how you book.

Day 1 — Arrival and the old town at walking pace

Land, drop the bags, and keep the first day deliberately light. The Barrio de la Santa Cruz is a ten-minute wander of whitewashed lanes and flower pots — small legs manage it easily, and there is ice cream at the bottom.

  • Check in and unpack near the Explanada de España
  • Stroll the Barrio de la Santa Cruz old quarter
  • Early dinner on the Explanada promenade

Most kitchens open for dinner around 20:00 — with kids, look for the terraces along the Explanada that serve from 18:30. Check opening hours before you go.

Day 2 — The castle above the city

Castillo de Santa Bárbara sits on a rock above the beach, and the lift bored into the mountain turns a sweaty climb into a two-minute ride. The ramparts are wide, the views run the whole coastline, and there is space for kids to roam.

  • Ride the lift up to Castillo de Santa Bárbara
  • Explore the ramparts and viewpoints
  • Walk down through Parque de la Ereta
  • Late lunch in the old town

The hilltop has little shade at midday — go before 11:00 in the warm months and carry water. Lift hours vary by season; check before you go.

Day 3 — Beach day at Postiguet

Playa del Postiguet is the city beach — flat, sandy, and close enough that you can walk back for a nap without a logistics operation. Rent two sunbeds, build something out of sand, and let the day be simple.

  • Morning swim at Playa del Postiguet
  • Sunbeds and a long picnic lunch
  • Afternoon siesta back at the hotel

Sunbed and parasol rentals are cheapest if you arrive before the late-morning rush; bring small cash as an estimate of 15–25 SEK-equivalent per item is typical.

Day 4 — Tabarca island and a slow goodbye

The catamaran to Isla de Tabarca takes about an hour and feels like an expedition without the effort. The island is car-free, the marine reserve water is clear enough to spot fish from the harbour wall, and lunch is fried fish at a quayside table.

  • Catamaran crossing to Isla de Tabarca
  • Snorkelling in the marine reserve shallows
  • Seafood lunch on the quay
  • Evening packing and a last gelato

Boats fill up in high season and the timetable thins outside summer — book the crossing a day ahead and check the return departure times before you go.

Budget — honest ranges

CategoryEstimated range
Flights (family of four, return)6,000–12,000 SEK
Hotel (3 nights, family room)4,500–9,000 SEK
Food and drink3,000–5,500 SEK
Activities and transport1,500–3,000 SEK

All amounts are estimates in SEK for a family of four — real prices depend on season, booking lead time, and how fancy dinner gets. Fjärran always shows ranges, never false precision.
